'Aerosol' - A(n Amazing) Short Film by Karel Segers [Video]

This is an incredibly well-done short film. It also has a ridiculously cute CGI ant that doesn't look like the "stock" CGI animals you see from all the big-name digital studios these days.

Does your drinking water burn? "GASLAND trailer" -- via @marusula [Video]

Comments [0]

It's unusual for me to post two movie trailers in a day, let alone within a few hours, but this looks pretty crazy.

The movie is a documentary (official site / IMDB) about the hazards of drilling for natural gas in residential rural areas.

Oh, and fellow geeks: Don't be distracted by the reference to "fracking" -- it's an industry bastardization of our beloved BSG term, used to describe a drilling process technically known as hydraulic fracturing.

Official teaser trailer for Paranormal Activity 2 has me interested (UPDATED) [Video]

Comments [0]

UPDATED 06/30/2010 3:00PM: One of my besties, @YooAngel, called me out this afternoon when she read this post. She pointed me back to a poorly formatted post, possibly pasted from my old blog, that I did in October, after seeing the original Paranormal Activity. I said:

I'm going to make this one quick. Paranormal Acitivty, a mockumentary about demonic haunting and possession, is in theaters now and I caught it yesterday with Meg a couple of friends. The title has been trending all over Twitter and most of the mentions have, unfortunately, been positive.  Let me offer a spoiler to those who are interested. I will tell you what happens:

Nothing.

Nothing at all. The movie mixes up haunting and possession, drops the ball on what could be an interesting back story, and essentially ends where a good movie would typically begin. If cheesey pretzels did not exist, and I was not so in the dark about where to buy some outside of movie theaters, the trip would have been a total loss. Consider yourself warned.

So, naturally, reading today's post about the sequel, wherein I mentioned that I "rather liked" the first one, my friend was compelled to email me the following (included with her permission):

You liked par. activity? are you joking man? weren't you with me and [another friend] while we heckled the whole time and wondered when the awfulness would stop?  did you not also laugh until you cried when it "climaxed"??  Well, in case you forgot, i did some research because i had a memory of reading some things about how you did not enjoy the movie on your "blog."

I particularly like the part where she, one of my best friends, puts the word blog in quotes, as if to denote the fact that I may believe it is more, in fact, than it is, this "blog" of mine. She went on to include the same quote that I pasted above.

And you know what? She's right.

But I really did like the story, the idea of the movie. The concept. It was just executed like a sickly dog turd. I guess I just flat-out pretended, in my mind, like the movie as it was released never happened. My brain just remembers the movie as I would have made it, with sufficient talent, money, and equipment. Which is to say, I wouldn't have taken a dump all over a really cool take on the mockumentary thriller niche.

This one looks far more promising. Right? I mean, one of my complaints was that it ended where it should have started. This one won't make the same mistake, will it?

Bueller?

Original post:

I rather liked the first one, and I'm excited for a second. My sequel-hating snobbery is beaten back by entries in the horror genre that rely less on special effects than most movies. Although I do love a good gore-fest, there are plenty of those to go around every year, so movies like Paranormal Activity are a welcome change.
